biography

Nederlands I was born in Amsterdam on 22 June 1978. From the beginning I have attended the Waldorf school ('Vrije School' in Dutch). Starting in Amstelveen on the Parcivalschool and later on in Amsterdam on the Geert Grote School. At present I'm living in Amsterdam together with my girlfriend, our son and our cat.

I have always been a busy person: not only to be with, but also in my interests and occupations. I have a lot of creativity in me which found it's way to the outside in different ways. I have been doing acting, music, writing, drawing, handcrafting – not only in school, also at home.

I have been playing traverse flute for nine years, following classes in classical music as well as more modern music and I played in a funk project at my local music school. I did a lot of soloing and some gigs. Then, after nine years, I had enough.

I took a radical step and made a carefully hidden dream come true: I started drumming. Drumming became my absolute passion. I never had any lesson, but thanks to a couple of very good and close drum-friends, I always had a lot of information, support and inspiration close at hand. After a lot of fooling around and playing in my first bands, I decided to take lessons to fill the gaps in my technique. So I'm a proud studen of Marcel van Weerdenburg for some years now and his guidance and knowledge have been – and are – of enormous benefit!

I've been a metalhead for quite some time now. From around my 14th year it started with Death and Malevolent Creation. After that I followed the metal path with which the most of all metalheads are rather familiar: Guns 'n Roses, Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth and so on… but that was merely just paying respect. I always had my own taste. For a list of my favorite bands you can visit the links page. If you can't make anything of the term 'metal' you can find more info on bands, genres and history on the BNR Metal Pages.

Off course there are some other bands which I really like. It all started once with The Beatles, and they earned a unique place in my heart. Next to that I listened to E.L.O., Harry Sacksioni, James Brown, David Bowie and more of those bands and artists dating from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Next to music I am really interested in philosophy, nature, people and the world around us. Already since I was a small kid I had a special link with Eastern philosophy's, symbols, music, story's and visions of live.

When I became older I discovered Buddhism, with the help of a very good friend of mine. He patiently told and explained me a lot about it and after wandering around a little bit, I felt most at peace with the Tibetan form of Buddhism.

Buddhism unifies everything I see as important in (my) live: it helps me develop myself in a kind and grounded way, with an open and clear view on the world.
